Afghan Women Ask Global Women Leaders to Stand by Their Side

“For the past few years, there has been an ongoing effort to negotiate with the Taliban,” a coalition of Afghan women write. “While we support a peaceful end to the four decades of war, we are disappointed that these efforts have by and large excluded women.” (DVIDSHUB / Flickr)

In an open letter to global women leaders, a coalition of Afghan women from across the country has asked them to “stand by their side to protect women’s rights” in Afghanistan. The letter is addressed to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D- Calif.); Rep. Ann Wagner (R-Mo.); U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft; Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany; and Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway.
